Effigy Mounds National Monument 2002

On August 18, 2002, I hopped in the car and went to Effigy Mounds National Monument, about 90 miles from Madison along U.S. Highway 18 on the Iowa side of the Mississippi River. In addition to the animal-shaped mounds that were the reason for the creation of the monument, there are some spectacular clifftop views of the upper Mississippi River within the park's boundaries.
